Subject: [Conet] Low tech solution to sharing broadband access
I think I may have asked this question before, but maybe in the =
intervening=20
period different solutions have become available.
Is there another way, other than installing a networking, that would =
allow=20
a community project to share Broadband access.
Within the project they are carrying on very separate activities, so for =
instance do not have a common database or other work that they share. =
The=20
only thing they share or all want is (reliable) access to the internet.
Can this just be done through a USB hub or ... ?
Has anyone implemented a low tech solution for sharing broadband access?
They have 5 (or it maybe 6) Pentium IIIs running Windows 98. (2 of them =
are currently using the Direct Connect function for shared dial up=20
connection but this doesn't seem very stable.)
Deborah
PS Another problem is that there is even money in their combined =
budgets=20
to employ someone as a network administrator, and there own work loads =
make=20
it unrealistic to think anyone would have the time to be trained and =
then=20
provide that function within the project.
