Apologies for cross-posting

London Connects VolCom Working Group

For the past year or so a group of us have been meeting through the good
offices of London Connects (the Greater London Authority e-Government
implementation body) to consider how the Voluntary and Community Sector
(VCS) could be better supported in its use of ICT. There has obviously
been a considerable amount of discussion around this both at Local and
National level plus the emergence of policy with funding (eventually we
hope!) driven by the Treasury Cross Cutting Review.=20

The London Connects group has been looking at the needs of the sector
that could be met or helped at a regional or sub-regional level - in
other words looking at what the GLA and London Connects could
practically do to help. Most of us round the table (from organisations
such as NACVS, NCVO, LVSC, LASA and London based VCS organisations -
apologies for the alphabet soup!) had experience on the ground and in
supporting VCS organisations so we had a good idea of the sorts of
problems that existed. Earlier this year we carried out a limited survey
to confirm those and begin developing ideas for London Connects to take
forward. This 'Baseline Survey' and the Recommendations arising from it
are now to be presented to the LC Board on the 5th November. They are
both available on the LC website at=20

  .
Look for the two reports under Related Documents.

I will be making a presentation to the Board on the 5th and would
welcome further comment on the report. However it is likely that there
will be wider consultation undertaken following the Board so don't worry
if you can't get back to me before then.

As you will see in the recommendations report the aim is to find
regional (ie London wide) and sub-regional (at least more than one
London borough) actions that will support activities already being
undertaken or planned at local or national level. If you want to know
more about the VolCom group please see the VolCom section on the LC
website here:
